Majorca or Mallorca is a beautiful island in the Mediterranean Sea. It’s the largest island of the Balearic Islands. The archipelago forms a province of Spain, with Palma de Mallorca as the capital. The other islands of the Balearic are Ibiza, Menorca and Formentera. It’s approximately 3640 square kilometres and has around 860.000 inhabitants. The island is surrounded by the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea and beautiful beaches, making it known as the Caribbean of Europe.
Cala d’Or is a popular holiday resort in the southeast of the island. Cala d’Or consists of three parts, namely: Cala d’Or center, Cala Egos and Cala Ferrera. There is a large marina with nice restaurants and cozy bars.
Cala d’Or was one of the first major tourist resorts in the east coast of Mallorca and the buildings in the area were themed in traditional Ibiza style, white walled low level villas, apartments and even hotels, which had to stick rigidly with this theme.
You will not find any high-rise buildings in this area. The center of Cala d´Or is a pedestrian zone. Here are many restaurants and terraces. The village is particularly popular with British, German, Scandinavian, French and Dutch tourists.
Cala d’Or is mostly visited by couples, older groups of friends and families with children. The nightlife is small compared to the big resorts such as Playa de Palma and Magaluf. Popular party bars in Cala d´Or are Diferent Bar, Time Out and Pub Budha bar. There are various cocktail bars as well. It has a cozy village atmosphere.
